Coco Gauff s’est dite ravie de son niveau de jeu affiché tout au long du tournoi de Cincinnati et espère pouvoir le reproduire pour réussir une nouvelle belle campagne à l’US Open.
Avant son entrée en lice dans l’Ohio, la double championne en Grand Chelem n’avait encore remporté aucun titre en 2026, après avoir perdu deux finales et s’être inclinée à trois reprises en demi-finales.
Pour ses débuts à Cincinnati, Gauff a été malmenée par Liudmila Samsonova, qui a remporté le premier set 6-2. Mais la numéro 4 mondiale a parfaitement réagi pour s’imposer 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
À partir de là, l’Américaine a déroulé. Elle a enchaîné cinq victoires consécutives en deux sets face à Ann Li, Marie Bouzkova, Marta Kostyuk, Sara Bejlek et Jessica Pegula, balayée 6-2, 6-4 en finale.
Gauff a particulièrement impressionné contre la numéro 3 mondiale. Elle a converti cinq de ses six balles de break et a mené la rencontre de bout en bout.
Gauff espère transposer son niveau de Cincinnati à l’US Open
Après avoir décroché son deuxième titre à Cincinnati, le 12e trophée de sa carrière sur le circuit WTA, l’Américaine a expliqué que chaque match lui avait apporté davantage de confiance dans le travail accompli.
« I think with each match, I was feeling more and more confident in trusting the work that I put in and the practice, » Gauff said after completing the Cincinnati triumph.
« Knowing that I can figure out these matches, and it’s going to be tough in New York, but just knowing the quality wins that I had this week, knowing that I’m able to figure it out even if I’m not playing my best, but also knowing that I can play that great tennis that I felt like I was playing this week. »

Gauff : « It’s night and day, the player I was last year to now »
L’an dernier, l’Américaine avait été éliminée en huitièmes de finale de l’Open du Canada, avant d’atteindre les quarts de finale à Cincinnati. Elle avait ensuite quitté l’US Open en huitièmes de finale, battue par Naomi Osaka.
Cette année, Gauff a atteint les demi-finales au Canada avant de s’imposer à Cincinnati. Elle se présentera donc à New York avec un bilan de neuf victoires pour une défaite sur dur cet été.
« I think it was a long journey, but I’m happy. I think it’s night and day, the player I was last year to now. I don’t think that this is an indicator that I’m going to do well in New York. Just knowing the quality ones that I had this week, hopefully I can use that experience, » the world No. 4 added.
Championne de l’US Open en 2023, Gauff tentera désormais de décrocher un deuxième titre à Flushing Meadows.
