“I mean, I had to keep my mind in the moment, you know the moment in my game, the important things on my side,” Navone said. “I couldn’t see Novak every time, you know it is tough doing four hours 30 minutes feeling okay for sure.
Yeah, I saw him in the fifth set [with] like a little injury, also in the first set with some tired moments. But this is Novak, the GOAT, he always found the key for beating someone.
So yeah, I think for my side the best thing I did was thinking about my side, about my coach, about my every time to thinking about the strategy and the thing I had to do.”
“Yeah, I never played on Arthur Ashe, I never played against Novak, it’s the first time I won a five set match,” Navone said. “I mean before that I think I lost like four matches, so yeah this moment I will remember for a long time.
I mean, you beat Novak in the first round of a Grand Slam, I mean one of the last one’s, I don’t know yet but it’s something important for me, important for developing my game, and my mind also too because it was really fun.
My idol when I was a kid was Novak, so yeah I mean it means a lot so I don’t know what I can say more because Novak is the GOAT in this sport, beating him in US Open Arthur Ashe night session is one of the best moments I have for sure in tennis.”
“So yeah, I mean you grow up seeing these guys, you know I got up many times early to see Novak in Australia, to see Novak in the French Open, to see Novak in the US Open going late before school when my mom said she hated me, but yeah I mean it means a lot you know.
So when you have the chance to play against him, you wish and you dream to beat him in this kind of stage, because you grew up with that. So yeah, maybe it’s a dream come true. Yeah, it was a pleasure.”
“I think it was obvious that it was an awful feeling on the court for me. It’s something that I’ve been carrying, unfortunately, pretty much every match this year,” Djokovic said.
“Vomiting, throwing up, a serious issue there. Then my whole body starts to collapse, basically cramping and pain. Yeah, the back just gave up in the end and shoulder, and I couldn’t close it out.”
“His body simply gave out,” Roddick said.
