Son incroyable victoire à Roland-Garros a propulsé Mirra Andreeva parmi les meilleures joueuses du monde.
La très jeune joueuse russe, qui n’a pas encore 20 ans, se montre également très performante à l’US Open et figure parmi les prétendantes au titre. Après avoir battu Anastasia Potapova (5-7, 6-4, 6-3), touchée par une blessure qui a perturbé son match, la native de 2007 s’est offert un prochain défi face à Coco Gauff ou Iva Jovic :
« I had the feeling that in the first set I still had a few chances from time to time. I don´t know. At first I felt that the wind and the shadow of the roof affected me a bit. I felt a little uncomfortable.
And then she also started to play very well. So the first set went to her, but in the second set I just tried to be much more aggressive, to take more initiative, because I felt that in the first set she was the one who did it more. When I came to this tournament I didn´t really know what to expect, because my results here hadn´t been the best. My best result was the third round. I thought, « Well, at least something will happen. » But I didn´t expect much. For some reason, I don´t know, it seemed like I couldn´t find my rhythm here yet. And now, for the moment, thank God, things are going pretty well. But I don´t know. I think maybe she´s more serene in some way because I´m not that demanding of myself anymore. »

Andreeva en pleine réussite à l’US Open
La Russe a ensuite évoqué son adversaire, pour laquelle elle éprouve beaucoup de respect :
« I remember the first time I saw her. It was in Monastir, a 250 tournament, and I had received an invitation and I had to play against her in the first round. For me, Anastasia has always been a kind of prodigy. She entered the circuit at a very young age. She also had a lot of victories. I remember we were all watching and cheering when she won junior Wimbledon. I remember watching that match.
For me she was always like a little star that I admired. The first time she just beat me. Then I realized that she was a very difficult player to face, but at the same time she was very kind. She told me so many nice things. Since then we have started training together. And that´s right, the more you see each other and the more time you spend together, the more we talk about everything, we comment on everything. So I feel like we have a good relationship off the court as well. »
